If tomorrow was the day I drew my last breath
And the sun that rose did not light my eyes
If the touches I felt did not rub my flesh
And the steps I took did not burn my thighs
I would still be fortunate for the things I have done.
I have watched a child grow
From infant to youth
I have watched the seasons change
From outside looking in, not long in the tooth
I have been fortunate for the things I have done.
I have held in my arms, and danced with an angel
I have tasted the sweetness from the honey of love
I have felt the warmth of a hug with hands so gentle
I have held a gift, a treasure, a dove.
I am fortunate for the things I have done.
But beyond the fortune
Beyond the dreams
Beyond the visions, the fields, the streams
I am thankful for the one who has entered my life
And calmed the years of distraught and strife
I am fortunate for the things I have done.
