I Said A Prayer For You Today

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard.
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke not a word.

I didn’t ask for wealth or fame
(I knew you wouldn’t mind).
I asked for priceless treasure rare
Of a more lasting kind.

I prayed that He’d be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings fair,
And friends to share your way.

I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small
But that you’d know his loving care
I prayed the most of all.

  4. There is the possibility that my granny wrote this poem. If she DID write it, and not swipe, I feel she’d be pleased others are taking credit authorship. She was the type that published her poems in huge books with a bunch of other amature poets. This is her reading it with others back in November 1984:

  6. Actually the author of this poem is Margaret Gould who was a staff writer for Gibson Greeting Cards. It was copyrighted in 1957 by Gibson in 1957 and I have a copy of the actual greeting card. I also have a letter from their legal counsel.
